Our site has a historical background with the state penitentiary and neighboring lots. Our site used to be Wilson & Stokes Lumber Company which was in the center of an industrial neighborhood. We decided to build upon this lot not because it was a massive plot of land but because we could tackle and solve a social issue with the stigma of imprisonment and incarcerated people. We designed a solution for the formerly incarcerated to be able to learn a skill and be able to thrive on their own in society. Our design incorporates amenities like the Bazaar Market and local restaurants.

In addition, we are providing temporary visitor living spaces as some visitors come from all over New Jersey and other states. The primary goal for this is to break down part of the mental, emotional, and financial burden that the prison system places on families through the ability to maintain regular contact and support and have a safe place to stay.
Our design provides the formerly incarcerated with private living spaces as a footing for their post-prison journey. We decided to offer them with these spaces as some don't have enough funds to return home or not having a support system. This can allow them to figure out their options.

Lastly, we determined our makerspaces to be a culinary school with the addition to post-prison programs. We decided for the program to have a culinary aspect due to the fact that the #1 employer is in the food industry. In addition, many of the former incarcerated will be able to survive on their own with new learned skill.
